INFERTILITY LINKS

Repronex

Repronex is a medication used in fertility treatments. It contains menotropins, which are a combination of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). These hormones help stimulate the ovaries to produce eggs in women undergoing assisted reproductive technologies like in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Uses of Repronex in Infertility Treatment:

  1. Women:

    • Stimulates the ovaries to produce multiple eggs for assisted reproductive technologies (ART) like in vitro fertilization (IVF).

    • Induces ovulation in women with anovulation (failure to ovulate) due to conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or hormonal imbalances.

  2. Men:

    • Used in combination with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) to stimulate sperm production in men with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (a condition where the body produces low levels of sex hormones).

How Repronex Works:

  • FSH stimulates follicle (egg) development in the ovaries.

  • LH helps trigger ovulation and supports hormone production.

  • In men, it stimulates the testes to produce sperm.

Administration:

  • Given as a subcutaneous (under the skin) or intramuscular injection.

  • Dosage is tailored based on individual response and monitored via blood tests and ultrasounds.

Possible Side Effects:

  • Common: Injection site pain, bloating, headache, mood swings.

  • Serious:

    • Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS): Can cause severe bloating, weight gain, and fluid retention.

    • Multiple pregnancies (twins, triplets, etc.)

    • Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing).
