Lupron (Leuprolide) - (GnRH) agonist

Lupron (Leuprolide Acetate) is a synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist used to regulate hormone levels in the body. It works by initially stimulating, then suppressing, the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), leading to a decrease in testosterone (in men) and estrogen (in women).

Uses of Lupron (Leuprolide)

  1. Prostate Cancer

    • Used to reduce testosterone levels, which helps slow the growth of hormone-sensitive prostate cancer.

  2. Endometriosis

    • Suppresses estrogen production, reducing the growth of endometrial tissue and alleviating pain.

  3. Uterine Fibroids

    • Shrinks fibroids before surgery and reduces excessive bleeding.

  4. Central Precocious Puberty (CPP)

    • Delays early puberty in children by reducing hormone production.

  5. Infertility Treatment (IVF)

    • Helps regulate hormone levels as part of ovarian stimulation protocols.

  6. Hormone Therapy for Transgender Individuals

    • Used in gender-affirming care to suppress puberty in transgender adolescents or as part of hormone therapy in transgender adults.
