Gonal-F

Gonal-F (follitropin alfa) is a type of injectable fertility medication used to stimulate egg production in women undergoing assisted reproductive treatments. It helps stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple follicles in assisted reproductive techniques such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intrauterine insemination (IUI). It is a recombinant form of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which plays a crucial role in the development of ovarian follicles. It can also be used in men to stimulate sperm production in certain cases of infertility.

How to Use Gonal-F

Gonal-F is administered as a subcutaneous injection (under the skin). It is available in pre-filled pens and vials for reconstitution. Your doctor will determine the correct dosage and schedule based on your specific condition.

Dosage

  • The dose is individualized based on ovarian response.

  • It typically starts at 75–150 IU per day for women.

  • In men, it is often combined with human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) for sperm production.

Uses of Gonal-F in Infertility Treatment:

  • Ovulation Induction – Used in women with ovulatory disorders (like PCOS) who do not ovulate naturally.

  • Controlled Ovarian Stimulation (COS) – Helps produce multiple eggs in IVF or intrauterine insemination (IUI) cycles.

  • Hypogonadotropic Hypogonadism in Men – Helps stimulate sperm production when used with hCG.
